This was with a brand new 2003 4 cylinder Tiburon. I went to my dealer
several times complaining of a hesitation between 4000 and 5000 RPM.
I was always told they were waiting for an answer from Hyundai. Nothing was ever done to correct the problem.
While I'm at it, I may as well mention this brand new Tiburon also burned about 1 litre of oil every 1500 KMs.
They also never did anything about this problem. Turns out when I paid to get the engine redone, it was a cracked head causing the oil burning problem.
Check out the hesitation between 4000 and 5000 RPM on the dyno results.
Dyno results with all Modifications.
A year after the work started, I finally got this car on a Dyno for fuel map tuning.
Everything went well and the numbers were what we expected.
At 10 PSI we got 237 WHP & 214 Torque.
At 14 PSI we got 271 WHP & 246.6 Torque.
At 16 PSI we got 288.4 WHP & 260.1 Torque.
On the dyno, once tuned everything was running great. For some reason,
as soon as I left the shop and got on the highway, the problems started
and the car never gave those same performances ever again.
Weeks later, I went to a 1/4 mile track. By that time, the car had several problems
like major hesitations starting around 4000 RPM when giving over 40% throttle. Engine
cutting off at 6200 RPM even though the Autronic ECU was programmed to cut off at 6700 RPM.
These problems and many others were never solved.
The best 1/4 mile time I got was 14.4 seconds. Keep in mind that was at about 40% throttle.
Looks like we will never know what 1/4 mile times this car should of done.
